The McAlester High School Boys Basketball Team paid a visit to The Children’s Center Rehabilitation Hospital. The team is playing in the Carl Albert Classic Tournament and wanted to tour the Hospital and visit with patients in the Pediatric Medical Rehabilitation Unit (PMRU). The PMRU is Oklahoma’s only inpatient rehabilitation unit, serving age’s birth to 21.
The coaching staff and team wanted to learn more about the Hospital and the services provided to patients. “This was our first time to the hospital. When we left our players kept talking about how inspirational it was to see the kids and the staff working together. The mentality of how happy and joyful the patients are is eye opening. We get frustrated losing a game, these young kids are overcoming bigger obstacles with a smile on their face,” said Ryan Walters, assistant coach.
Patients at The Children’s Center Rehabilitation Hospital receive a wide variety of services. Some of those services include 24-hour medical care, special education and various forms of therapy. “We wanted our team to be able to see young people like themselves overcoming challenges that are hard for us to understand and comprehend. It was great for us to be involved and are proud of the work the staff does and the hard wok the patients put in everyday,” said Walters.
