Jordy Mercer Named Honorary Board Member

The Children’s Center Rehabilitation Hospital, a nonprofit pediatric hospital, announced today Jordy Mercer, infielder for the Pittsburgh Pirates, will serve as a member of the Hospital’s honorary board.  Mercer will be part of a public relations and marketing campaign for the hospital, including public service announcements, speaking engagements, and social media outreach.

Mercer, a native of Taloga, Oklahoma, first came in contact with the Hospital in 2017 only a few weeks before spring training with the Pirates. Mercer was invited to tour the Hospital through a family connection with Mercer Adams Funeral Services. Throughout his major league baseball season, Mercer remained connected to the Hospital.  When asked if he would join the Hospital’s Honorary Board he said, “It would be an honor and a privilege to be a part of the Hospital.” Mercer and his wife, Kasey, reside in Oklahoma during the off-season.

“We are incredibly picky when it comes to choosing members for our Honorary Board. We look for those people who are engaged in our mission, compassionate with the patients, and willing to help share our dreams and goals with others in the community,” said Melissa Richey, director of communications and marketing for The Children’s Center Rehabilitation Hospital. “Jordy showed us immediately he fits that role. He is definitely joining an elite group of people here at the Hospital.”

Other honorary board members include: Kelli O’Hara, Tony Award winning Broadway actress; Lincoln Riley, Head Football Coach for the University of Oklahoma, along with his wife, Caitlin; J.T. Realmuto, 2018 All-Star catcher for the Miami Marlins; Michael Fulmer, pitcher for the Detroit Tigers and the 2016 American League Rookie of the Year, along with his wife, Kelsey and Ogbo Okoronkwo, defensive player for the Los Angeles Rams.

The honorary board members serve as ambassadors for The Children’s Center Rehabilitation Hospital, as well as support the Hospital’s fundraising efforts through personal and community influence.
