Transitioning from Hospital to Home

Our interdisciplinary team in the Complex Care Unit provides specialized health care to children (ages newborn to 20 years old) with complex medical needs. These children frequently have chronic severe health conditions and significant functional limitations that require ongoing medical care. Habilitative and/or rehabilitative care and nursing services are provided to patients whose medical condition warrants it. We strive to provide this care in the least restrictive environment possible. The average length of stay for patients in the Complex Care Unit is 24 months.

Diagnoses include, but are not limited to:

  • Cerebral palsy
  • Neuromuscular disorders
  • Brain injury or stroke
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Complex congenital heart disease
  • Feeding difficulties
  • Genetic disorders
  • Severe Epilepsy
  • Chronic lung conditions
  • Spinal muscular dystrophy

Common characteristics of our patients include:

  • Conditions involving multiple organ systems
  • Developmental delay
  • Use of technology to sustain life
  • Use of equipment such as wheelchairs, braces, and lifts
  • Need for in-home nursing and in-home therapy

Payment Sources

The Children’s Center Rehabilitation Hospital accepts private pay, insurance and Sooner Care.  The Hospital also offers a financial assistance program.  If you have concerns about your ability to pay for your child’s care, or applying for financial assistance, please call (405) 789-6711, ext. 1202.
