Fall 2020 Pediatric Nurse Residency Program Begins

The Children’s Center Rehabilitation Hospital is now Bethany Children’s Health Center.

This week, The Children’s Center Rehabilitation Hospital welcomes 15 RNs to the Fall 2020 Pediatric Nurse Residency program.

This full-time residency includes extra class time for lectures, hands-on assessment practice and simulations/critical thinking exercises. Nurses in the program also learn career skills such as time management, leadership skills, communication and de-escalation techniques, how to be a better mentor, and preceptor training.

The program is focused on providing the residents with knowledge of our patient population, critical thinking for responding to patients in need, and understanding pediatric care beyond what happens here at The Children’s Center Rehabilitation Hospital in order to see the big picture of a child’s and family’s health.

The residents will hear from over 20 different speakers – everyone from physicians and APRNs, child life specialists from neighboring hospitals, to the various therapists the nurses interact with every day. With this team-oriented philosophy, the development of both technical and soft skills is encouraged.

The program is designed to prepare the nurse resident to sit for the Certified Pediatric Nurse exam by the end of the program. During the residency, we want to build new nurses’ confidence and competence, while also supporting our current staff with more knowledgeable and helpful colleagues, and increasing nursing retention.

Applications for the Spring 2021 Pediatric Nurse Residency Program will be open later this fall.
