Security Director Tim Peters’ upbeat approach to work, life and finding his happy place

If you know Security Director, Tim Peters, you won’t be surprised that the Christmas lights at Bethany Children’s Health Center were among the things that drew him to the hospital.  Those bright points of light during a most joyous time of year exemplify Tim’s spirit and the positive energy that shines from him year-round.

Tim’s favorite saying is “Have the best day yet,” which inspires him to live each day to the fullest.  He is intentional about sharing his bright outlook with others, believing that if you think of others before yourself and offer great customer service, everything else will fall into place. “I ask myself, at the end of the day, ‘Did I give my best? Was I a positive impact on someone’s life today?’”

Tim Peters“I believe we have the best security team around. I’m very proud of them,” he says, “But I also push my guys and girls and myself to always be better the next day and the day after that.”

The security team is always available to lend a helping hand, and Tim takes a proactive approach to managing the security needs of the hospital by figuring out ways to solve problems or issues before they happen.

Tim grew up on a farm in Guthrie, Okla., and wanted to be a veterinarian. His first job was cleaning out horse stables four times a week at 4:30 a.m. During his college years, he took a job as a night security guard at a car dealership. Through it all, his mom has always been the most positive influence in his life.

An avid reader, Tim goes through two to three books a week, in addition to reading the Bible. After a recent off-the-cuff discussion about buffalo and bison with hospital CEO, Nico Gomez, Nico handed Tim a book on the subject. Tim’s ready to dive in and report his findings.

Reading, watching sports and spending time with family are Tim’s “happy places.”

“Everyone has a happy place,” he explains. “When you never look at a clock or watch – you lose track of time because you’re having so much fun. That’s your happy place.”
