Rachael Cambron and the Environmental Services Team find their groove despite the pandemic

As Environmental Services Manager at Bethany Children’s Health Center, Rachael Cambron’s mission is to provide a safe, clean environment for patients, families and staff. In the last ten years at the hospital, she has gained a lot of experience. She started out cleaning units and working in the laundry, then became a supervisor, and now manages Environmental Services and Laundry.

Rachael and her team have always been essential, but never more vital than during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The past year and a half have been very challenging,” Rachael admits. “We have been worried about the safety of our co-workers, patients and our families.”

The team took action by making sure they had access to the proper PPE and the most up to date COVID-19 related information, changing their cleaning products to those that kill the virus, and increasing infection prevention efforts.

“We were overwhelmed, but we pulled together and made it through,” Rachael says. “It made us more resilient and closer as a team.”

Rachael’s approach to life is making most of every minute and helping others. She used to drive by the hospital and was curious about it.

“When I discovered what Bethany Children’s Health Center was all about, I wanted to be a part of it,” she recalls. “I love working with all of the staff and contributing to keeping the hospital clean.”

Rachael and her team cover a lot of ground, and are responsible for cleaning every area on campus, as well as off campus hospital facilities. Although the pandemic has added to the Environmental Services Team’s workload, their dedication to maintaining the highest standards and giving patients a clean place to heal has never wavered. Rachel says, “I would say that it was very intimidating at first, but I think we have found our groove.”

When she’s not working, this grandmother to ten little ones loves spending time with family and taking the grandkids camping.
